nothing left to lose.

having an iphone were i can literally be connected to twitter, facebook, instagram, and email 24/7 is a scary thing. i think a lot of the time i justify myself for spending so much time on these medias when in reality i selfishly just want to be up to date on what is going on in others' lives. i'm learning though that that doesnt mean stalking people on fb or reading everyone's tweet from the last few hours to see whats been going. but rather being intentional and seeking people out to see how they are doing. i dont think that social media is a bad thing but i think we've become consumed with this idea that we have to post or tweet in order to show others that we're truly "living". i find myself caught up in what a "good tweet" would be to post or taking a picture because people have to see where i am...as i was thinking about this more and more i decided it would be a good idea to give up facebook for lent (thinking it would be easy to cut off from it completely) however it's actually been a lot harder than i expected. which i think is good because its forcing me to step out of my comfort zone. for example-every week we have a club event on facebook and i invite girls who i'm usually not bold enough to ask in person, convincing myself that its basically the same thing...but without facebook it pushes me to ask them in a more personal way. in the halls, a call etc. its hard but its good.

we live in a world where social media controls our communication, throwing out the old ways of being intentional and present. its become easier to be courageous over a text or facebook message rather than in person and i hate that. i want to be present. i want to be intentional and genunine. it calls for more effort and time. but its definitely worth it.
