we just wanna be loved

we live in a broken world. and today i truly saw how broken we are. the halls of high school are filled with kids trying to feel cool, accepted, popular, known-and many of them will go to far measures to accomplish that. we had a sub today in spanish so after we got our work done we had some free time. i ended up dozing off (i take advantage of any time i get to nap) but i woke up to an interesting conversation between a few people sitting at the table next to me. they were talking about God, not only who He is, but what role he plays in peoples' lives. they talked about how the "religious" people shouldn't be forcing their own religion onto others. they all agreed that it was fine that people believed in a God but that they should not be trying to tell others about what they believe. this conversation got me thinking...i wondered if any of them had even had a glimpse of who God is, what He did for us and how much he loves us. it killed me that they focused so much on the religion side instead of seeing it as a relationship with our creator. i feel like so many people have distorted views of who God is. maybe they seem Him as a distant guy who doesn't really care for us, or a guy who punishes us when we are bad, and loves us when we are good. but i wonder if they have ever even just had a glimpse of who He is how much there perspective would change.
the conversation above was happening to the left of me while the following conversation was going on to the right of me: a few girls were talking about an upcoming party. who the DD was going to be and how crazy it was going to be. how excited they were for the boys they liked to be there. they probably talked about it for a solid 20 minutes. and i hated listening to it. i hated hearing that these girls were going to boys and partying to find life, to find satisfaction. i hated that these girls thought the only way they would be accepted is if they fit in with the party scene. i hated that they were completely clueless of their creator. the one who loves them so deeply. the One where they would find true life.
today i really got a glimpse of how broken our world is, how broken my school is, how broken i am. however, in Christ, we are new creations. we are complete, we are alive, we are whole. we wont know who we are until we know whos we are. i love that. without Him we're nothing, with Him we are so much more than we could ever imagine.

ps: i know this whole post basically sounds like i was eavesdropping but i promise i wasn't trying to be nosy.

pss: this actually happened last friday. i started the post then and didn't have time to finish until now. i was too lazy to go back and change the first part. but better late than never right?
