oh my sweet disposition

above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life-proverbs 4:23

our hearts are fragile. they were made to be exposed in relationships; however, only to those whom we trust, who will hold it with care. they were not meant to take on the brokeness of the world. so we protect them. giving glimpses only to those we have grown to trust. those who will not take advantage, but rather those who will encourage. its so easy to fall into the deception of giving our hearts away to anyone because of the desire for others to know us, love us. how common and meaningless it has become. the after effects are hard. we werent meant to feel unloved, heartbroken. we were meant to feel cherished and pursued. our hearts are fragile. however, i was talking with a friend (who is wise beyond words) and she reminded me that "guarding your heat doesnt mean letting nothing in, just being careful of what we do let in." i think there's a fine line between guarding our hearts and not letting anyone in. building walls that no relationship will ever be able to break down. it's scary to let someone in knowing there's a risk of of being hurt. but if we never take that chance where does that get us? i'm telling myself this advice as i type...i think we most definitely have to be cautious in who we let truly see the depths of our hearts. but we also have to be willing to break down those walls and share it with those who have earned the right. and theres a risk in that. in being vulnerable. even to the most trusting. becuase we're human and we're broken. but when we find relationships that give us glimpses of how the Father views our hearts, man. thats something incredible.

You see the depths of my heart, and you love me the same.
